Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo

Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo is a distinctive Australian black cockatoo recognized by its dark plumage, white tail panels, and prominent cheek patches. Its scientific name is Zanda latirostris, and the species occurs naturally in southwestern Western Australia rather than Arkansas. It is classified as endangered, making responsible conservation and lawful wildlife management especially important.

A Remarkable Black Cockatoo

Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoos are highly social birds that naturally live in pairs and flocks. They have a powerful, broad bill adapted for opening hard seed pods and nuts. Their natural diet includes seeds from plants such as banksia, hakea, eucalyptus, and other native vegetation, with additional foods including flowers and insect larvae.

The species is also notable for its seasonal movements between breeding and feeding areas. Breeding depends heavily on large hollows in mature eucalyptus trees, while nearby native vegetation provides important feeding resources. Habitat loss and the shortage of suitable nesting hollows are among the major pressures facing the species.

Rigorous health standards and transparent documentation. My Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo arrived with a complete veterinary dossier. Active, brilliant plumage, and very alert. Worth every dollar for a quality captive-bred parrot.
